What is Shockwave Therapy?
At Achor Foot and Ankle, we are happy to offer EPAT® (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology) Shockwave Therapy to our patients! It is a simple, non-invasive treatment that utilizes unique pressure waves to increase circulation and speed up the healing process. In doing so, it reduces pain and symptoms of conditions like plantar fasciitis and diabetic foot ulcers.
In clinical trials, EPAT® dramatically reduced heel pain and Achilles tendonitis. It did so without causing severe and unwanted side effects. Shockwave therapy is especially helpful for those with diabetes, as it may allow them to more effectively stretch their heels and ankles, preventing foot ulcers from returning.
How Does It Work?
EPAT® works by unlocking your body’s own healing potential. The gentle shockwaves are sent through the area causing you pain and stimulate better blood flow, tissue regeneration, and reduce pain and inflammation caused by overuse. Because it is non-invasive, you won’t experience any downtime or lengthy recoveries.
For most patients, 3 to 5 weekly sessions of 7-10 minutes each are enough for them to feel the positive results. In fact, EPAT® has an over 80% patient satisfaction rating, which means 4 out of 5 patients feel better in far less time than it would take to undergo surgery and recover from it.
What Areas Can Be Treated With EPAT®?
In addition to the treatment areas mentioned above, EPAT® can also reduce pain and increase healing in the following:
- Foot and Ankle
- Lower Leg
- Knee
- Thigh
- Pelvis and Hip
- Back
- Shoulder
- Neck
- Upper Arm and Elbow
- Forearm, Wrist, and Hand
- Trigger Points
